Endoscopy in Children

Understanding the Procedure

Endoscopy is a medical procedure used to examine the inside of the digestive tract using a flexible tube with a camera. It is a safe and common diagnostic tool in children for identifying and treating various gastrointestinal issues.

Types of Endoscopy:

  1. Upper Endoscopy (EGD):
Also known as esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), this procedure allows doctors to view the esophagus, stomach, and upper part of the small intestine. It can help diagnose conditions like acid reflux, ulcers, or inflammation in these areas.

  2. Lower Endoscopy (Colonoscopy):
A colonoscopy examines the lower part of the gastrointestinal tract, including the colon and rectum. It’s commonly used to investigate chronic diarrhea, bleeding, or unexplained abdominal pain.
